UPDATE ON TANKER 8 - 6-14-09
TANKER 8 SOLD
The tanker has
been sold to the Union Fire Company of Bethel, Pennsylvania. The 1987
Western Star made its last run as Tanker 8 on May 29th to Fenwick Circle
in Bryans Road's area for a house fire. The first call the tanker
responded to was on June 7, 1987 for a working building fire in Mason
Springs (an old tavern). Ironically, the same member operated the tanker
on its first and last run. Life Member (with 45 plus years in our
department) George Abell happened to be at the right place at the right
time 22 years ago and last week. How is that for luck! Congratulations
George. Maybe your luck will hold out and you can operate the new
"cadillac" on its first run. The new Tanker 8 is a 2009
Peterbilt with a Pierce body. It will carry 3500 gallons of water and is
equipped with a 1000 GPM pump. The committee members will make a trip to
Pierce for the final inspection in a few weeks and the new piece should be
in service by the middle of July.
