Yesterday our members took advantage of the deep freeze to train on ice rescue. We trained on various patient removal techniques. We also trained on airboat operations on the ice. Shortly after the training was complete, Airboat 8 and Fireboat 8 responded mutual aid to Fairfax County, VA in the Occoquan River for a reported ice rescue. Both units were placed in service while responding.

Our members are highly trained and equipped to handle these types of emergencies. It is never safe to walk across or play on a frozen body of water. The extreme cold air and water will easily overcome anyone who falls through.
