Last night, the calls for service continued to come in. In the evening hours, units were alerted for an animal rescue on Wooddy Road in Port Tobacco. A canine had slid down a steep slope and was unable to get back to the top. Rescue Squad 8 members donned ice gear and made their way down to the location of the dog. A combined effort from numerous companies on the scene led to a successful removal of the dog utilizing a high-angle rope system.

Squad 8 was then alerted for a carbon monoxide incident in BryanS Road. The incident was handled quickly with no service from the Squad.

A structure fire assignment was dispatched in Bryans Road about 30 minutes later. Rescue Squad 8 and Chief 8B responded. Units found a working garage fire. Engine 8-3 was added on the working fire dispatch. RS8 assisted units from Co. 11 with checking for extension in the house.

Early this morning, units were alerted for a structure fire in the 5400 block of Powerline Place in our first due. Engine 8-4, Tanker 8, Brush 8, UTV8, Rescue Squad 8, PA8, and Chief 8A responded. Engine 8-4 arrived to find a single family dwelling with fire showing. Chief 8A arrived and established the command. This incident was down a rural lane that had not been plowed. Access for any large apparatus was not possible. A brush fire task force was called to the scene, as well as UTVs to shuttle personnel and equipment down the long, icy lane. Due to access issues, the home was a total loss. Efforts were made to extinguish the fire, however adequate water supply was not available with the brush trucks on the scene. One occupant was transported to the hospital for evaluation of minor burns.

Since the snow started late Saturday evening, our department has responded to 25 incidents. Five of these incidents have been working structure fires. Three of the responses have involved significant ice-related search and rescue effort. While the snow and ice has impacted our ability to get to some residents, we continue to adapt to the conditions to ensure we can serve our community.
